A boat trip down the river can be very hot, now that summer days are here. It sure makes you want a cup of ice cream or two. But in the middle of water, where can you find something like that?
There is one floating down the Thames in London, driven by merry men and playing Rod Stewart’s “We Are Sailing”.
Called the HMS Flak 99, it is considered as the first amphibious ice cream truck. It started going up and down the river Thames, selling ice creams to anyone riding boats. While the business is enjoying moderate success, the summer heat may not have been enough to compel people to jump from their boat and swim towards the truck.
The brainchild of comedian David
Mounfield, who took the boat out personally, the HMS Flake 99 was commissioned by Fredericks. The company is better known as the name behind the famous Cadbury brand. The ice cream truck/boat was created specifically to celebrate England’s National Ice Cream Week (May 30th to June 5th) and promote Britain’s beaches.
Aside from the Thames, there are plans to bring the boat to other shores in the country, and even as far as Venice.
Too bad, but there does not seem to be any news of bringing this over the US.
