Meilleur ouvrier de France Pascal Caffet Makes Ridiculously good sweets

What the heck are you waiting for? Once you watch Kings of Pastry, you will understand (at least a little) why food is so important to the French. The movie follows Chefs who are competing to become MOFs -Meilleur Ouvriers de France. The competition happens only every four years and is backed by the French Ministry of Labor. Those who achieve the title of MOF are held with incredible respect. We’re not talking reality TV here. We are talking strict rules, years of training (some of these chefs have started when they were not even teenagers), and a ridiculous amount of pressure…soooo….when I have a chance to eat a MOF’s creation, I do so.

MOF PAscal Caffet Chocolate Cake

Incredible cake, sweet yet not cloying. Leave it to a MOF

Luckily, I go to France often and Strasbourg is home to one of Chef Pascal Caffet’s chocolate shops.

He was the youngest Pastry Confectioner to become a MOF at 27 years old in 1989.

The shop is tiny and impeccable. Lucky for me the people working there spoke English. I speak enough French…but get me excited and I forget words. I picked two desserts. They were gorgeous. I’ve been nibbling at them for the past 3 days…and enjoying every bite. They cost about €11 in total and were the perfect indulgence.
