Let’s say you have an extra $1,000 burning a hole in your pocket and you want to impress that “special someone.” Try heading to New York City’s Serendipity 3, where you can order their Golden Opulence Sundae, purported to be the world’s most expensive ice cream dish. Created in 2006 to celebrate the restaurant’s 50th (golden) anniversary, this extravagant dessert requires 48-hours notice to make. Believe it or not, the restaurant says they make the sundae once or twice a month.
This gourmet dessert touts the following features:
“Five scoops of the richest Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream, infused with Madagascar vanilla and covered in 23K edible gold leaf, the sundae is drizzled with the world’s most expensive chocolate, Amedei Porceleana, and covered with chunks of rare Chuao chocolate. The masterpiece is decorated with exotic candied fruits from Paris, gold dragets, truffles and Marzipan cherries. It is topped with a tiny glass bowl of Grand Passion Caviar. It’s sweetened and infused with fresh passion fruit, orange and Armagnac (a distilled grape brandy). The sundae is served in a Baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet (Retail: $320) with an 18K gold spoon to partake in the indulgence and topped with a gilded sugar flower by Ron Ben-Israel.”
Those who have enough cash to order the Golden Opulence Sundae get to keep the goblet (but not the spoon).
If you’re not in the mood (or can’t afford) the sundae, you can opt for the more modestly priced Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, another house specialty, for only $8.50.
By the way, if you do go for the sundae … don’t forget to add the tip.
