Wine Review: Alanera Rosso Veronese

What a lovely bottle of wine this was. The 2012 vintage of Zenato’s “Alanera”Rosso Veronese was intoxicating on the nose. The mouth was velvety, rich, and definitely done right.

Turns out this wine is made with many of the same varietals that you will find in its more expensive cousin, Amarone:Ā Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone. But the wine maker adds other grapes, including Cab & Merlot which soften the wine quite a bit. Much like Amarone, the grapes for this bottle are also dried, but only up to 60 days. This allows the wine to sell for less than a traditional Amarone, and makes it lower in alcohol.

The wine ages in oak for a year, which adds a lovely tannic touch.

I gotta say, for the 2012 being the first vintage of this wine..it was damn good.
