Top Ten Comfort Foods

What do people do when they’re stressed out?  They typically turn to food, and find comfort in the flavors and textures of dishes that are usually high in fat and calories .. but oh, so delicious.  Although individual tastes may vary, many of the same foods show up on top comfort food lists repeatedly, validating that they have indeed made it into the comfort food “Hall of Fame”  Let’s look at some of the perennial favorites, in no particular rank order.

Macaroni and Cheese ” Although there’s nothing as delicious as homemade mac and cheese, the variety coming out of the famous blue box will work just as well during desperate times.

Chocolate ” Chocolate will cure all ills, especially if enhanced by caramel and peanuts.

Meatloaf ” Moist and juicy, and served with a pile of mashed potatoes, this meal will lift your spirits in no time.

Fried chicken ” Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, America’s favorite finger-licking food keeps the blues away.

Grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup ” This is a “two-fer.”  You can’t have a grilled cheese sandwich without a bowl of tomato soup.  They go together like .. peanut butter and jelly.

Peanut butter and jelly ” Another favorite that brings back happy childhood memories.

Chicken Pot Pie or Chicken and Dumplings “Nothin’ says lovin’ like somethin’ from the oven” and these hearty meals are tummy pleasers.

Lasagna ” Hearty, carbohydrate-loaded pasta elevates your mood in no time flat, especially when it’s loaded with meat and cheese.

Chocolate chip cookies ” Chewy cookies loaded with chocolate chips were the perfect after-school snack that took away all a kid’s troubles and worries.

Ice cream ” Your favorite flavor, eaten directly out of the carton!
