What's your favorite treat

Trick-or-treat hasn’t changed that much over the years. Conceptually, it is pretty much the same, with kids dressing in costume and soliciting goodies from neighborhood homes.  One big change is that parents need to be especially vigilant when sending little ones out to knock on doors.  No longer are healthy or homemade treats encouraged for goody bags, thanks to a small number of perverted pranksters who altered the good-natured joviality of the holiday.  Treats, tainted with poison, razor blades or other nefarious substances have forced responsible adults to purchase individually and hermetically sealed candy (which coincidentally, seems to be shrinking in size every year).

When you go to the grocery store, there are many options for your Halloween candy-giving pleasure.  From mini-candy bars to lollipops and licorice, the choices seem to be endless.  A recent poll by the National Confectioners Association reveals that classic chocolate treats and traditional sweets will dominate trick-or-treaters’ selections with more than half of all Americans planning to participate in the candy giveaway tradition.

This year, adults will most likely hand out the following to the costumed cuties who come knocking at the door:

•  Chocolates candy
•  Hard candy or lollipops,
•  Chewy or gummy candy
•  Chewing or bubble gum
•  Caramel treats

By the way, more than 90 percent of all children go trick-or-treating.  Kids say they prefer homes that give anything made with chocolate, followed by lollipops, gummy candy and chewing gum.

Not unexpectedly, nine out of ten parents admit to sneaking candy out of their kids’ trick-or-treat bags, with most parents going for the mini-chocolate bars!   So it doesn’t matter if you’re a kid or a parent — Halloween is a holiday where everyone wins!
