Things Every Foodie Should Carry in Their Purse

Make sure to have these in your bag at all times

Maybe not every foodie carries a purse, but there are good reasons for considering doing so.  You never know when you’ll be in a situation where you encounter a great meal or a come upon a great idea that you want to take back home.  A good foodie, like a Boy Scout, should always “be prepared.”  Here are some things I always carry with me … just in case.

A couple of small Rubbermaid or Tupperware containers. It doesn’t have to be anything large or fancy, just half-cup or one-cup containers with a tight fitting lid.  I always make sure I have my own containers with me when I go to a restaurant.  Although the restaurant may graciously give me a doggie bag, I like to transfer my own leftovers into my own containers. (This probably goes back to the time I found chewing gum attached to the top of a take-home pizza box!)  I also make sure I have a few quart-size Ziploc bags, for the same reason.

A digital camera or sound recorder. Fortunately, most cell phones and PDAs have built-in cameras or recording devices.  Use them to snap pictures of beautifully plated entrees at restaurants, menu descriptions or anything else that inspires you.  Use the recorder to dictate notes, recipe ingredients or impressions before they slip your mind.

Business cards or return-address labels. You never know whom you’ll meet and with whom you may want to exchange information.  Although the electronic exchange of information is so easy in today’s digital world, business cards or self-stick address labels are sometimes preferable and easier to exchange.  Keep a stash in your wallet or purse for just those occasions.

These are some of my foodie essentials.  What are yours?
