I wonder if the Colonel is doing cartwheels or turning over in his grave.

In an ambitious gamble that has been years in the making, Kentucky Grilled Chicken is finally coming to a restaurant near you.  Yup, you heard that right.  The venerable fried chicken franchise is getting an extreme makeover as the chain tries to lure health conscious consumers back into its stores and invigorate less than stellar sales.  After being test-marketed in six cities ” Indianapolis, Colorado Springs, San Diego, Oklahoma City, Jacksonville and Austin, Texas, the national grilled chicken rollout starts this week.

This is  the second major change Kentucky Fried Chicken has made in the past two years.  They most recently switched cooking oils to eliminate trans fat from their fried chicken products.

The Louisville-based franchise, a division of  Yum brands, will soon get new storefront signs for its 5,100 U.S. stores to promote the new Kentucky Grilled Chicken product. Even the famous bucket is getting a makeover.

Compared to the original fried chicken recipe, which has between 110 and 370 calories and 7 to 21 grams of fat per piece, its slow grilled cousin will contain 60 to 180 calories and four to nine grams of fat.

Free samples will be offered to customers on April 27, which has been declared “UNFry Day” at all company locations.
