The History Of Merlot By Gundlach Bundschu WineryI LOVE WINE.

All wine (except for white zinfandel; it’s tainted the zinfandel name and I think I can never forgive it for this).

I think I may have fallen in love with Gundlach Bundschu Winery without having tasted their wines. Their new video “The History of Merlot” shows love and respect for this beautiful grape. The video is funny, warm and accessible; three things that we need to have more of in wine.

Merlot has taken a beating lately. After Sideways, people put Merlot out of their mind. Sales of Merlot declined while sales of Pinot Noir rose. Sadly, now every winery (and their mother) is now making sub-par, boring (Syrah spiked) Pinot Noir.

Those with more discerning eyes saw more to Mile’s rants about Merlot. They knew that his most precious bottle was the 1961 Cheval Blanc – right bank of Bordeaux and a bottle I’d give my liver for.  MERLOT!!!

Go buy yourself a Merlot (may as well make it a Gundlach) and watch “The History of Merlot”, you’ll thank the Gundlach guys later.
