Spring is in the air!

You can almost taste the cool air, feel that slight breeze, and experience that pleasant mix of warm and cold that only spring can bring. Of course, when we talk about spring, we’re also talking about food. Now that winter is gone and spring is here, we are now finally going to enjoy a nice treat. There are plenty of fruits and vegetables available this season for you to try.

Take your pick of produce and their recipes. Remember, enjoying fruits and vegetables in season ensures that you get not only the best nutrition, but also the best value for your money.

1. Asparagus ” farm-fresh asparagus has a firm texture and a flavor that speaks of many enjoyable days under the gentle sun. Sauteed, mixed in a stir-fry, or added to soups, this vegetable is just delicious.
2. Blueberries ” known as Nature’s “greatest”antioxidant, blueberries are sure to be a huge treat this spring. Fresh blueberries are perfect for jam, pies, or just any kind of dessert that you can think of.
3. Carrots ” this spring, carrots are at their best. They have a sweet taste and crunchy texture that makes them all the more delicious. They can be eaten fresh, as part of a salad, or turned into a healthy juice.

5. Cherry Tomatoes ” these may be small, but you shouldn’t underestimate them. Whether it’s for stews or salads, cherry tomatoes are perfect. More so if they are harvested during spring.
6. Cucumbers ” come late spring, fresh and crunchy cucumbers are the order of the day. Look for them in farmer’s markets and other outlets and experience the real pleasure that comes from fresh spring produce.
7. Onions ” dedicated cooks will know that spring brings sweetness to even the most unexpected of vegetables, including onions. Really, it is only during springtime that we get to enjoy the succulent sweet texture and flavors of onions.
8. Spinach ” high in iron, perfect in stews, and just right for a quick steam or stir-fry, spinach pretty much goes out of season quickly during spring, so you should get them while supplies last.
9. Strawberries ” nothing can be more delicious than sweet strawberries, right? That’s what you’ll get during spring, so go ahead and enjoy them while they are in season.
10. Sugar Snap Peas ” whether it is for salads, stir-fry, or a simple soup, sugar snap peas would make for a wonderful springtime treat.
