Smart Bordeaux iPhone App
A huge problem for French wine sales in the US (and Sake…Sake producers…read this article and do as the French have done) is verbage. The majority of Amercians are simply not familiarized with terms like Bordeaux or Burgundy. It’s really not all that complicated, but the Bordeaux Wine Trade Council has recognized the issue and offered a solution: The “Smart Bordeaux”iPhone app.
Why do I like it?
It’s Free
Scan the label, qr code or barcode and get information on that particular bottle of wine
You can also do a search by typing in the name of the Chateau
What can I learn from it?
Appellation, classification, awards (medals and ratings)
History of the estate or brand
Characteristics of the soil and grape varietals
Wine making methods and tasting comments
Food Pairings
You can even contact the Chateau!
What are the extras?
There’s even a section with general information about the winegrowing region, its history, Bordeaux wines, the appellations
For a long time the wine industry has lagged behind in technology. This is especially true with old world wines. It is a breath of fresh air to see wineries reaching the digital age. Christophe Chateau (what a cool name), the Internal Communications manager tells me that 17,000 chateaux and Marques are in the data base, along with 11,000 labels. He states “the goal of the app is to make Bordeaux easier to understand and more ‘modern’ going closer to the consumer.” The app will be launched at Vinexpo and Hong Kong and the Bordeaux wine festival in Bordeaux.
Cheers to Bordeaux!
