What is the best way to get people come through your store and buy some goodies? It would be through their senses. And a grocery store knows this marketing strategy too much that it put up scent machines on every aisle inside the grocery shop.

It is one of the things that make us hungrier and reach out to our wallets for some cash. Our sense of smell is something that works in very mysterious ways. How magical it is for our nose to help attract people to food before having a taste of it. I am sure you have experience something like this when you pass by a bakery, where you can smell freshly baked bread with its aroma floating inside and out of the bakery. In an instant, you just feel the urge of having to buy a piece of that bread. But this is not the case for this Brooklyn supermarket. The strategy may be smart but pretty sneaky.

Scent Machines Invade A Grocery StoreThis grocery store has thought of a new strategy to have customers buy some items or products from their store. By putting up  a few scent machines to release  gastronomic aroma permeates the air such as the smell of fruits  freshly picked in season,  an opened bottle of milk, smoked meat,  among others. This sure is a very smart marketing strategy for the grocery store to increase sales by attracting customers, ultimately caused by these scent machines. They have five of them, with each machine costing only $99 a month. They have reached their goal of making people hungry and reaching for those cash in their wallets. It is good for the business, but it is always not that good for people coming in. How can they can assure that it is safe for the customers?

What most people do not realize is that “artificial scents”are made with chemicals, and we do not know what these chemicals are. It can be made with something that can trigger any particular disease. I think many of you have seen a smoke machine before, and there are people asking if it is safe to add some scent to it. There has been a research done on this one, and they found out that some scent additives had some elements on it relating to carcinogens. Carcinogens are widely known to be cancer-causing agents, and who knows, these scent machines contain one or two or three of this chemical elements.

It would be very much enticing for an individual to have a great scent of food, but it has to be real and not just chemically produced. It would be great if they can do something about smell to be healthy for customers, and not just for the business. In time, when someone gets sick with this, it would not really be helpful for their business.
