Sancerre: A Wine with Character

Food always tastes great when you pair it with the right kind of beverage. That’s especially true with Sancerre.

Sancerre wines have become popular with the culinary crowd because of its ideal taste, color, and aroma. Like all white wines, Sancerre goes well with light dishes like poultry and seafood. Even so, there are others who like it with steaks and stir-fries. This is the type of wine that you might call versatile.’ You can almost serve it with any kind of dish, depending on the diner’s preference.

Sancerre is a town found in the central vineyards of Loire Valley, which places them nearly at the center of France. The area is divided by several smaller valleys, each with their own soil composition. The flinty soil of the eastern portion makes for wine with good aging potentials, while the area between the town and Verdigny area has marl and gravel as its main soil composition, perfect for fruitier and balanced wines. The chalky white grounds of the southwest, meanwhile, is ideal for producing weightier wines. Sauvignon blanc is the common grapes variety used, although some areas would also grow Pinot noir.

Sancerre: A Wine with CharacterThe wine possesses a bone-dry’ taste, with an aroma and taste that closely resembles peaches and gooseberries. It also carries hints of grass and the fine earthy flavors from the countryside which it came from. It is also one of the few wines that are not cured in oak barrels, retaining their fruity flavors. That also explains why Sancerre has become a favorite in many restaurants serving it.

For its great taste, fine aroma, and excellent accompaniment to meals, Sancerre is definitely a wine that you should try.
