The Dos Mestizos who are responsible for the Spanish restaurant next door are also responsible for an amazing little deli on Boracay island. This deli can stand up to most delis in NYC. It has quality meats, homemade roast beef (if you are lucky enough to get there before it runs out), bread baked on the premises and great service.
The deli was willing to deliver sandwiches for 21 people all the way on the other side of the island. Most other places that we asked did not. This garnered them our continued patronage during our stay. My favorite sandwich was made with a paprika Lyoner, much like a bologna, with roasted pepper bits inside. It was really exciting to find a deli in Boracay; it is not part of Filipino culture to eat sandwiches. Sammies are considered snacks, not full meals. This makes them scarce on the island and makes Baker’s Brothers a delight for someone jonesing for a good one.
