The Tangled Vine NYC

The Upper West Side is known to New Yorkers as a waste land of restaurants. Sure, there are plenty of places to eat, but most of them are sub par (or incredibly expensive Michelin starred places). The choices for good, affordable eating are few and far between. The Tangled Vine fits the bill.

The Tangled Vine opened about a year ago to the delight of local foodies and wine lovers. On my first visit there, I walked in during happy hour. Wines by the glass (BTG) were incredibly priced. I knew I would like this place.

I’ve been to the tangled vine more than once (that’s an understatement.) I’m surprised it took me this long to write about them. My last visit was for Erin (one of our contributor’s) bachelorette party. Our group was made of meat eaters and vegetarians. The Tangled Vine was a perfect choice. There were plenty of vegetarian entrees that would leave any meat eater satisfied.

Before we get to the vegetarian fare, let’s talk a little carnage:Ā Pork Montaditos. These sinful bites are crispy pork belly sliders, pickled radish with garlic dijonaise. While these are not to the level of Momofuku, they are gosh darn good and delicious. The pork is juicy, the buns satisfying and merely $12.

Now that we have covered the meat, we can get to the veggies. Lots and lots of deliciously comforting veggies. We started off with theĀ Beet Salad. Ā It consisted of market lettuces, goat cheese, toasted almonds, red wine vinaigrette. The salad disappeared within seconds. The combination of the beets and goat cheese was lovely. The toasted almonds added a gorgeous crunch. This salad was a win ($13).

TheĀ Spring Asparagus Salad was ridiculous. Think king oyster mushrooms bringing in a bit of umami; arugula, and tarragon dressing for a dash of acidity. Best of all, plenty of mushrooms to satisfy a table of six women without starting a fight ($14).

IĀ almost forgot to mention Happy Hour Oysters, they were a mere dollar per. Succulent, saline, delicious oysters. We ordered one plate of sic, but should have ordere 20; they were so delicious.

Back to the non-happy hour items. Lastly, crab croquettes: deep fried deliciousness. Deep fried but not greasy. Crunchy on the outside and tender and succulent on the inside. When dipped into their aioli, they became a sin ($10 gets you 4).

The Tangled Vine NYC

The Tangled Vine has been a nice addition to the Upper West Side, as a business they have figured out everything other restaurants in the neighborhood were unable to. I predict a long and lucrative life for this wonderful little place.

The Tangled Vine is located at 434 Amsterdam Avenue at 81st St, New York, NY 10024 Ā 646.863.3896
