Sammy’s Noodle Shop, Not as Good as It Used to Be

It had been a while since I had visited Sammy’s Noodle Shop & Grill. Antonio and I were in the area and craving Chinese. It seemed an easy enough choice. We walked in and the crowd remained unchanged; stoners sharing huge plates of General Tso’s, cops munching on Chicken and broccoli, and us sweaty and hungry after coming in from 100 degree weather in NYC.

We started off by ordering Xiao Long Bao (a.k.a. juicy pork buns). What a disappointment. The skin was too thick, the aspic super salty, and the pork was hard (almost like a hockey puck). We each ate one and left the rest hoping for better tidings.

Antonio ordered the Roast Pork Cantonese Style. This came out about 10 minutes before my entree. It was fine, nothing spectacular. The meat was quite fatty, but at least this did not feel like an MSG bomb. This dish too barely got touched.

When my Moo Shu Chicken came out, I was feeling pretty hungry. This was the best of all the dishes. Still, over salted, but significantly better than the first two. We each had one wrap, paid our bill, and headed out unsatisfied.

I’m not quite sure what happened here. This place used to be good. Oh well, I guess all good things must come to an end.

Sammy’s Noodle Shop, Not as Good as It Used to Be**One note. Service was good. Our water remained filled in this very hot day, and our server was kind and attentive.
