Have you ever just stopped somewhere because you were on a long drive and you were starving. You had no expectations, and suddenly your mind was blown. This happened to me on my drive from Charleston, SC to Charlotte, NC when we made a pit stop at Real Mexico.
Real Mexico is located off the I20 and it is totally worth deviating from the highway. It was some of the best Mexican I’ve had this year. I had a feeling I was in for a good meal when I saw that the parking lot was almost full.
The restaurant is modest with fast food like booths and small tables. We sat down and perused the menu. I’m a bit careful when ordering at a new Mexican place. You need to test these places out before getting adventurous. I ordered the shrimp tacos. WOAH! Can I tell you these were slammin’. The shrimp was fresh and perfectly cooked, and had a touch of sweetness. The salsa on the tacos was off-the-hook delicious. The plate came with five tacos…and I ATE THEM ALL!
Antonio ordered two different types of chicken tacos. He ended up getting a third. This does not happen often. Seriously.
We left without making a dent in our wallet, full, and yet…wanting more. Real Mexico was a lovely surprise and I definitely recommend it. If I had known how good this place was, I would have ordered something more daring. Maybe you’ll do that for me and let me know how it goes.
Real Mexico is located at 2421 Bush River Road in Columbia SC
