Review Market Table Restaurant New York
Upon my return from Europe, it was necessary to catch up with all my friends and colleagues. What a great excuse for grabbing lunch. I met up at Market Table on Carmine Street to chat with Chef Jennifer ColeĀ to about her new role at The Fat Goose in Brooklyn.Ā I had eaten here on various ocassions and knew we’d have a great lunch. I was not disappointed.
We started off with a glass of white wine (about $10 per glass) and we decided to share a few appetizers. First came out the fried east coast oysters ($15). While I am normally an oyster purist; I must say these bites were delectable. They were properly fried. This was not a mess of oil and breading. These were elegantly fried oysters that stayed true to their nature. They came on a bed of cabbage slaw and the most delicious cayenne-tomato butter. We did find a shell in one of the oysters; but this did not deter us in our eating.
Next came the beef carpaccio ($13). The beef itself was lovely. It was super thin, fresh, and flavorful. The surprise: it was topped with french fries. Crunchy, deliciously irresistible fries.
Our last “appetizer” was theĀ warm octopus salad ($15). The octopus was tender with none of that unpleasant chewyness. It was accompanied by sliced fingerling potatoes cooked to the right consistency.
We shared the braised short ribsĀ to finish off our meal ($22). The dish was perfectly executed, the ribs were tender and flavorful and topped with horseradish crumbs which served to add interest in texture and flavor.
Chef Mike Price and partner, Joey CampanaroĀ created a comfortable space with almost flawless dishes. It makes for an haute-casual experience anyone can enjoy.
Highly Recommended.
