Review El Quim De La Boqueria in Barcelona, Spain

1x1.trans Review El Quim De La Boqueria in Barcelona, SpainWhen I decided to head to Barcelona; I knew I had to make a stop at the Boqueria. What I did not know was in which of its famed stands to eat. That was until one of my favorite people to follow on Twitter; Sonny Le directed me to try El Quim.

El Quim is the most popular and busiest stands at La Boqueria. This is no surprise. I was a little confused, so I asked a guy at the restaurant with some sick tattoos (he turned out to be the famouse Quim). He told me just to eye people who looked like they were close to finishing and take their seats when they left. We did this and to everyone else’s chagrin; we had a seat in minutes.

The choices were plentiful and all were tempting. We made our choices and ordered a bottle of cava (16 Euros). We expected nothing of this “Lounge” cava, but it turned out to be perfect for our meal. I’d order it again in a second.

1x1.trans Review El Quim De La Boqueria in Barcelona, SpainWe had been eating way too much meat this trip, so we made a conscious effort to order greens. Asparagus wrapped in bacon and drizzled with the most delicious vinegar (8.50 Euros). This dish was outstanding. The asparagus was tender on the teeth and contrasted nicely with the almost sweet bacon and the luscious vinegar.

Each and every little mussel was opened up (if more than 3 are not open you are not eating at a good place). They were perfectly cooked and laced with saffron. Delightful.

We had already ordered more dishes, of which, the albondigas came out next (meatballs 9.70 Euros). We debated back and forth on the ingredients. We finally decided they must be a combo of veal and pork. They were light and flavorful and sat on a bed of a carrot based sauce. When you go, these are a must.

Do not miss El Quim on your next visit to Barcelona. Great service, great food and great prices.
