Angelo’s Pizza
Anyone who knows me understands my complete obsession with Totonno’s in Brooklyn. I measure all pizza to Totonno’s in Coney Island; most of it does not hold up. Angelo’s Pizza is no Totonno’s. That being said, Angelos is damn good pizza, especially for the tourist hell that is Midtown New York. I am speaking of the location on Broadway between 53rd and 54th (There are two other locations in NYC).
If you happen to find yourself battling crowds of clueless tourists, Angelo’s is a good place to take a breather. They serve good, solid New York pizza and great fried calamari (light, flaky and not greasy whatsoever). The pizza crust is thin (but not too thin) and crispy on the outside with just enough ‘doughiness’. The sauce is not overly sweet or overly acidic. It is very nicely balanced. The cheese and basil are fresh and I have to admit, it’s pretty hard to leave a slice. Angelo’s serves a solid NY slice.
Angelo’s is located at 1697 Broadway 212-245-8811
