If the restaurants on our first Thanksgiving NY 2012 list are all booked, don’t fret. We did lots of homework to find out who has the best offerings in NYC. What are you waiting for? Turkey day is just around the corner…and you know I don’t want to cook.
Carmine’s: (Carmine’s 2450 Broadway, NYC, 212-362-2200; 200 West 44th Street, NYC, 212-221-3800) – You have all heard me say over and over again that Carmine’s is the only acceptable tourist trap in NY. I love their food and I can imagine that their Turkey day celebration will be amazing. Their Family Style Feast (which feeds eight) costs $225 and includes an 18 lb turkey, Brussel sprouts, green beans, baby carrots, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes…you get the gist. Make your resos now, Carmine’s is never easy to get into and you don’t want to miss out.
China Latina (127 West 28th Street at the Hotel Indigo, NY 646-397-9881) – If you want to celebrate Dia de Accion De Gracias, head to Chef Julieta Ballesteros’ restaurant any time between Nov 17-25. She’ll be serving up turkey mole wanton tacos ($18) AND pork and kimchi tamales ($13). I’m so there.
Delicatessen (54 Prince Street, NY, 212-226-0211) – One of my favorite spots in the city for food and people watching will be offering a $42 Thanksgiving menu. Chef Michael Ferraro has included some of his favorite holiday dishes: turkey tortellini soup, local farm roasted turkey and assorted Thanksgiving pies. The menu will be available from 7:30am-12am.
Dinosaur BBQ (777 West 125th Street, NY, 212-694-1777) If you’re entertaining at home, but don’t feel like doing all the cooking…go ahead and place an order from Dinosaur (my favorite BBQ place – I’ve been to all their locations in NY state). Sure, they are closed on Thanksgiving, but for $159 you can pick up their Thanksgiving package which serves 8-12 guests). The meals can be picked up 2 days in advance and come with heating pans and instructions. The meal includes a 14 lb pit roasted turkey, homemade turkey giblet gravy, cornbread stuffing (so worth the calories), whipped sweet potatoes, and the choice of two homemade pies.
Hospoda: (321 East 73rd Street, NY, 212-861-1038) – How about a Farm-to-Table Czech-style Turkey day? At $49 per person, it’s easy. Executive chef Katie Busch will be serving up a butternut squash soup, maple glazed turkey, and a pumpkin tarte with BACON and chestnuts.
Le Perigord: (402 East 52nd Street, NY, 212-755-6244) – Le Perigord is one of those classically New York places where service and impeccable food rule. They will offer a $65 Thanksgiving Prixe Fix menu which will include turkey and stuffing with cranberries. The menu will be available from 12pm-9pm.
Millesime: (92 Madison Avenue at the Carlton Hotel, NY 212-889-7100) If you’re more of a modern French fan, then Millie is your spot. They have two offerings for the holiday. Who needs turkey when Millesime will be serving a “Thanksgiving Plateau” at $44 for two people which will include 1/2 dozen oysters, 4 jumbo shrimp, AND their famous Tuna Tartare. If you are more of a traditionalist, you can opt for their 3-course prix fixe. It includes plenty of options including a chestnut soup, sea bass, turkey, and some sinfully delicious desserts.
Pera Soho: (54 Thompson Street) If you’re not in the mood for tradition, you may want to check out Pera. Their Thanksgiving menu, includes Mediterranean turkey pot pie, turkey “Shashlik” style, and Turkish rice pudding. Their 3-course prix fixe is only $49 per person. Spice Market: (403 West 13th Street) - One of my favorite places for people watching will be serving a prix fixe menu on Thanksgiving Day for $36.00 per person. Dishes include roasted turkey breast with confit turkey leg, white truffle gravy, green apple and sausage stuffing with caramelized chestnuts, sweet and sour cranberry sauce, and a warm ginger bread pear and kumquat compote. Tocqueville (1 East 15th Street 212-647-1515) – Toqueville wants you to bring the kids. Chef Jason Lawless’ Thanksgiving 3-course menu costs $95 per adult and $45 for the kiddies (10 and under). His delightful menu includes creamless caramelized chestnut soup, house cured terrine of Hudson foie gras, and Fisher’s island oysters (and that’s just the appetizers).
