Restaurant City

Launched five months, Restaurant City was created by Playfish, a company that specializes in social games for platforms including Facebook, MySpace, Google and iPhone. The virtual restaurant game Restaurant City draws more than 10 million users a month on Facebook, where 10 million virtual restaurants have been created and more than 200 billion virtual customers have been served.

According to the official Restaurant City Facebook page, Restaurant City lets you run your very own restaurant and employ your friends to work for you as waiters and chefs. And with a wealth of different decorations, furniture and equipment to choose from you can really make your mark with a completely unique restaurant. You can visit your friends’ restaurants too and even trade ingredients with them to help you create a menu which ensures your restaurant is the talk of the town!

The game’s basic strategy is to design your own restaurant, create a menu by buying and trading various ingredients, manage and optimize employee production, and satisfy diners with your menu. If you’re successful, you earn money and popularity allowing you to expand your operation. This app shows the growth of interest in all things culinary. In today’s scene where the Grand Theft Auto series and Halo rank in the top video games, it is pretty impressive that a fantasy restaurant game app has reached such popularity. It is yet another indicator of the popularity of foodie culture. Who knows? maybe in the near future you can win some restaurant coupons. I just wish it wouldn’t be a virtual coupon too.
