Perk Up Your Body With A Glass of Wine A Day

I am a huge wine aficionado. I’ve been researching, learning about and of course drinking wine for the past 10 years. Outside of the fact that I love the stuff (bubbly, rose, white, red); there are some really great reasons to have a daily glass of wine. There are a few caveats. First, this means moderate drinking (so not polishing off a bottle of Malbec by yourself). Second, most of the benefits are related to red wine. These are some of the benefits that scientists and researchers have found  regarding the health benefits of moderately drinking wine.

Lower Cholesterol. The saponins in red wine can reduce cholesterol in our arteries. Just look at our French and Italian friends. Dishes slathered with butter or drizzled with oil. Heart-clogging, you might say, but studies on resveratrol (and the health of the French) have shown that a glass here or there can help.

Kidney stones. This study from Harvard concerns mainly for women, it shows that red wine can help reduce the occurrences of kidney stones.

Strokes. Every time you drink red wine, you reduce the chances of arteriosclerosis (thickening of the artery walls). This means lesser chances of strokes.

Heart Problems. Since red wine takes care of cholesterol reduction and artery clogging, then you can expect that your heart will be dealing with lesser problems. Not a bad reason to open that bottle of Pinot Noir.

Long life. Last but not the least, provided that family ties or environment will not give you complications, then moderately drinking red wine can actually extend your life. This is great, right? So bring out that Zinfandel now (I’ll just take a sip) and rejoice in its benefits (only if you are of legal drinking age of course).
