Being innovated every day

The Prepared Foods’ New Products Conference was held last week in Palm Beach Florida, and featured the introduction of dozens of new products and food trends for 2009.  The conference, which brings together food researchers, developers, marketing personnel and executive management, convenes annually to share information about new food and beverage products, and consumer trends around the world.

One of the hot items revealed at this year’s conference included a multipurpose cookie, designed for both human and animal consumption. Dubbed “modern morsels for sharing,”these people and pet treats are manufactured by Toats Organic out of Hamilton, Virginia.  Multipurpose food is a trend that is expected to take off in the coming years, as developers find better ways of combining ingredients to make them more useful for multiple audiences.

Another item of interest is Pocket Espresso to Go,  a pre-packaged shot of high-powered caffeine in a portable container, complete with straw.  The Italian-made beverage is not yet available in the U.S., but it is likely to be coming soon, after making a big splash in selected Italian cities.  The product has one-third the amount of caffeine of regular espresso, only 47 calories and one gram of fat.

The New Products Conference is sponsored by Prepared Foods,  a leading industry publication that provides the latest information on the newest developments in food research and development. Prepared Foods follows trends to help developers and marketers promote their products.
