Barraca: 81 Greenwich Avenue – Greenwich Village - Chef Jesus Nunez will honor childhood traditions and pay tribute to the Cerdo Iberico, every last bit will be put to good use (as it should). The Iberian pigs will be sourced from Fermin (this is the good stuff) and be featured in an $85 tasting menu for two. The menu will include delights such as morcilla, butifarrra, chorizo, orejas crujientes, and much more. If you are not familiar with these names, you should be…so make your resos now.
Cafe Boulud: 20 East 76th Street – Upper East Side - By know you all should know I’ve got a thing for Daniel. It is with no hesitation that I recommend his Christmas Eve 3-course prix fixe menu $145(plus tax and tip). Dishes include Maine Peekytoe Crab with a green apple gelée, parsley celery root remoulade and a Pan Seared Duck Breast with Minnesota wild rice, Brussel sprouts apple cider, sauce albufera.
Havana Central: 2911 Broadway – Upper West Side – Christmas Eve in Latin households is HUGE! The 24th, otherwise known as Nochebuena (the good night) is the day for the big feast, drinks, music, and celebrating. We may not be able to go to Cuba, but we can make believe at Havana Central. This Nochebuena, Chef Stanley Licairac will be serving traditional Cuban dishes like vaca frita, ropa vieja and a stuffed sandwich cubano. But, what you really want…is their roast suckling pig. It’s $575, but it feeds the whole family (15 people) and comes with sides. This is how Latinos really celebrate Nochebuena!. And if you are entertaining at home, it is available for takeout and delivery.
Landbrot Bakery & Bar: 137 Seventh Ave South – West Village -You know a taste of Germany is just the thing to get the celebration started. Landbrot will offer a $38 three-course prix fixe dinner on Christmas Eve. Dishes include Angus beef carpaccio with black Oregon winter truffle, Forest mushroom risotto with butternut squash, and a German plum tiramisu. Make reservations today, because they are required.
Le Mangeoire: 1008 2nd Ave – Midtown East/Sutton Place – Maitre Cuisinier De France Christian Delouvrier has crafted a 3-course Prix Fixe French Christmas menu to be served on December 25th at $49 per person (plus tax & tip). You can start your meal with a wild mushroom chicken veloute, and follow it up with a pan seared Hudson Valley duck breast.
Miranda - 80 Berry Street – Brooklyn/Williamsburg - Miranda’s a la carte will be available, alongside a New Year’s Eve tasting menu from 5 to 11 pm for $51.13 (plus tax and tip). The menu includes New Year’s toast with a glass of complimentary Prosecco. Dishes include a twelve grape salad (did you know grapes are a lucky New year’s food), a trio of mariscos, niqui verde, and agnolotti (house made pasta stuffed with pernil and black-eyed peas. Definitely worth the trip to Brooklyn.
Pizzarte: 69 West 55th Street – Midtown/Central Park - Chef Antonio Pisaniello has two things going for him; Michelin stars and Neapolitan background. On Christmas Eve, he will show off his skills in a 4-course menu (plus an amuse bouche of shrimp cocktail & a glass of Prosecco) for $60 per person (plus tax & tip). Dishes will include Insalata di Mare with octopus, cuttlefish, and calamari in lemon dressing and fresh parsley, or Orata al Forno – oven baked orata with green olives, sliced potato, chickpeas, capers, and lemon dressing.
Provence En Boite: 263 Smith Street – Brooklyn – Jean-Jacques Bernat has put together a lovely menu for just $47. Start off the meal with a Royal Kir, and move onto a selection of Amouse Bouches. The formal meal starts off with delicious appetizers such as a terrine of foie gras. The are followed by main courses such as flambeed scallops in whiskey. To finish off your Christmas celebration a French Buche de Noel.
Sea Fire Grill: 158 East 48th Street – Midtown East/Grand Central – Executive Chef Richard Pims has crafted a menu to showcase his skill with fish. His three course menu costs $79.95 (plus tax & tip) and includes dishes such as lobster bisque with cappuccino foam, oysters Rockefeller, herb basted Atlantic halibut, or a two pound lobster. Great place to dine at especially after a visit to Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.
Spice Market: 430 West 13th Street – Meatpacking - Spice Market New York will be serving a Holiday Bento Box ($34) during lunch hours (12-4pm) from now until the end of December. The box includes 6 savory dishes and 2 desserts, all in tasting portions. Dishes include butternut squash soup, cinnamon braised pork belly Sandwiches and five spice duck confit spring roll. It could be a great way to get a taste of Jean-Georges while you take a break from your holiday shopping.
