New Burger King Ad is a Bit Hard to Swallow

Burger King's new risque advertisement
Our pal, Burger King, is running an ad for its Singapore locations that leaves very little to the imagination, and many folks are finding it a bit hard to swallow. Others find the ad for the new “Super Seven Incher” a bit too “in your face.” Regardless, most everyone agrees that it is raunchy and in very bad taste. Just check the blogosphere, where the ad is one of the most discussed topics this week.
Burger King’s suggestively sensual ad promoting its seven-inch submarine-type sandwich is raising more than just an eyebrow, as the lengthy food item is propelled toward the open, pouty mouth of a wide-eyed young lady who looks petrified at its arrival. Definitely salacious and absolutely sexual, the image itself might not be quite so bad if it were not for the copy that goes along with it.
It’ll Blow Your Mind Away.
Fill your desire for something long, juicy and flame-grilled with the NEW BK SUPER SEVEN INCHER. Yearn for more after you taste the mind-blowing burger that comes with a single beef patty, topped with American cheese, crispy onions and the A1 Thick and Hearty Steak Sauce.
Does this describe something you want to eat or something you want to do?
The only thing missing is the “Have it Your Way” tag line, accompanied by a squirt of creamy mayo (which seems to appear on the sandwich but not in the description).
Subtlety and sensitivity appear to be dead in this advertising campaign, having been replaced by gross sexploitation. Burger King is not the only company running ads of this nature, but theirs is just the latest in a series of tasteless and crude marketing messages by companies all over the globe that seem intent on offending large segments of the audience that they are theoretically trying to reach.
In Burger King’s case, just whom do they think will buy this sandwich?
As Dr. Phil might say, “What were they thinking?”
