If you are an aspiring wine connoisseur and happen to live in or be going to Nantucket on May 21st; you are in luck. The Nantucket Wine Festival will be in full swing.
Wine connoisseurs have mastered the art of sniffing, sipping wine (and sometimes even drinking wine) to the point where they can tell you the year, country, varietal, and even the vineyard the wine came from. This comes with lots and lots of practice.

The Nantucket Wine Festival is a great place for you to start working on your 10,000 hours (what it takes to become an expert at any one thing). The event is a revelation of the wine culture itself, the convergence of wineries, wine enthusiasts, connoisseurs, culinary luminaries and even wannabes to exchange notes, rub elbows and party.

Definitely festive and grand, the Nantucket Wine Festival has become a tradition. From sunrise to sunset, the event features several festivities to the delight of attendees. You can expect people from all walks of life, even the young and restless. It is not exclusive of age or genre and gender. If you haven’t been at the NantucketWine Festival, not once in its fifteen years, then you are missing a part of culture and tradition. Mind you, once you’ve had a taste of the festival, you will find yourself going back.

The Nantucket Wine Festival has an amazing line-up of activities for everyone to enjoy. Besides an overflowing supply of wines (126 wineries), you get to savor the culinary and gastronomic treats of Nantucket’s best chefs. If you’re in for some brainy exercises on wine and food, there are plenty of seminars and symposia to attend.

We are particularly excited about Old World Cheeses and New World Cheeses (with two master Mongers: Ihsan Gurdal of Formaggio Kitchen in Cambridge and Matt Jennings of Farmstead, Inc., in Providence). These guys know their cheeses and will discuss everything from the differences between new and old world cheeses, how to pair them with wine and of course…there will be plenty of cheese tasting. ($75)

If a wine festival is the convergence of the purveyors of the food and wine industry, one name will definitely ring a bell “ Maison Joseph Drouhin. This winery has reached an iconic level. Maison Joseph Drouhin, was founded in 1880 in Beaune, France. They are known for producing quality vintage wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. They are even in the cutting edge and have adopted organic farming.

Another must attend event is How to get the best of your sommelier. A lot of wine novices can be intimidated by those we perceive to be smart and snobby. But today’s sommeliers are nothing like those of the past. Sommeliers are accessible and there to make your wine experience better. Get to know Brian Smith, Advanced Sommelier where he will give you all the secrets to make your restaurant experience with a sommelier the best. ($60)

If you are interested in an all-encompassing experience; you can go with the Grand Cru Package. Sure, this is more expensive ($750), but you really get your money’s worth.
