Memorial Day; the day to honor those who have protected us, is observed every last Monday of May (for this year, it is May 30). This often marks the start of summer vacation (with Labor Day marking its end). It started as a form of reconciliation and remembrance during the Civil War, although it has now evolved into more of a family affair, with families going to cemeteries to honor their departed relatives.

This is one of the most important occasions for many Americans. It is a time to honor the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of their country. This kind of patriotism deserves our respect.

This day of remembrance and honor has turned into a family holiday and as such there must be food.

If you have run out of ideas, or simply want to try something new…you could try herb roasted potatoes and onions as a side dish. It a savory and filling dish that your guests would enjoy. You could also prepare green asparagus and bacon wraps. It is a simple recipe that your meat-loving friends will appreciate. As for the main dish, you could put some zing in your meal with spicy beef barbecue. For dessert, a serving of citrus salad with mint will be the perfect palate cleanser for a great meal.

Observing Memorial DayThis would make for an excellent Memorial Day meal.
