France is considered the culinary capital of the world because of its extraordinary popularity, love, and passion for food. It brings you to a whole new food experience, one after the other. This is the culinary haven of many talented chefs, working on outstanding kitchens, whether big or small, to offer the freshest and most heavenly gastronomic treats that they could make. A culinary adventure in France would probably be one of the best experiences that a foodie could ever ask for.

This city boasts of its array of restaurants and foodie havens in an indoor and outdoor setting. Every detail depicts a history of France, its food, and the people. And if you’re talking about a famous French treat, you’d never have to go away and just think about the French baguette. This is considered a symbol of the French culture, something that represents what the city and the people are. It is a loaf of French bread and is usually made of a lean dough. Unlike any regular bread, this is made in long length with a crispy crust finish. It can be consumed with as simple as a butter spread to a sandwich baguette. The French baguette somehow represents the simplicity of France with a little elegant touch. Although many regions and countries have tried making their own versions, nothing beats the original French baguette recipe and style.

Despite the richness of culinary spots in France, a fast food chain still never fails to enter the picture. We all know the phenomenal fast food company, McDonald’s, and its burgers and fries. They have brought and introduced the American culture to the world through their fast food staples that many people love to have, even when they are in France. And now, they are stepping the competition to a whole new level. McDonald’s will be adding the French baguette to their French McCafe breakfast menu. I mean, baguette is an iconic symbol in France, made and sold by simple French bakers to make a living and preserve the French culture. You’d see people on the streets with a baguette on hand, ripping and eating it while having a walk on the street or sitting at an outdoor bench. This is a simple yet very iconic treat for the French, and should not be taken advantage by “fast food“chains such as McDonald’s.

French Baguette At McDonald’sWhat makes it worse, is that why would you go and eat at McDonalds when you have many other better choices to dine in, especially when you’re in France. For me, this is like slapping the French culture and using the baguette to sell the company. It is said that The Holder Group, owner of Laduree stores and Paul Bakeries will be supplying the baguette for McDonald’s. Both of these bakeries are famous for their breads. This makes the culinary competition a little more serious, but how would they maintain the freshness if we are talking about one of the biggest fast food chains in the world? Two big companies will be working on the local French baguette for the McDonald’s lovers. Would you prefer to put your money on a giant fast food company like McDonald’s or buy French baguette from a mini French bakery on the corner. Come on, it is not called the culinary capital of the world for nothing. The quality of their food begins with fresh and local ingredients. Helping this giant company would mean a little less bright future for the local farmers and suppliers.

I’m not saying that McDonald’s should not embrace the French culture, like they did in many other countries. Give even just a little respect for the simple living of the French baguette. McDonald’s is very well known worldwide for its delicious burgers and fries and a few other items on the menu, maybe they should just stick with that.
