McDonald’s begins selling its premium Angus Burger nationwide today. There are three versions of the new $3.99 Angus burger — deluxe with pickles and tomatoes; bacon and cheddar; and mushroom and swiss. McDonald’s began developing the Angus burger about two years ago.
“Using a Quarter Pounder with Cheese as our control burger, writes Kevin Pang, host of The Cheeseburger Show, “we found the Angus patty had a coarser, slightly chewier mouth feel, with more prominent beefy notes. But it still has that familiar, unmistakable beef-from-McDonald’s taste. The bacon in the Bacon & Cheese is surprisingly crisp, unlike the flimsy, pliable bandage-shaped meats you might find in other fast-food burgers. It’s also intensely smoky, a plus.” Pang says McDonald’s had added crinkle-cut pickles, red onion rings, and a thicker slice of tomato and mushrooms.
Dan Coudreaut, McDonald’s executive chef, told Bloomberg.com that the new burgers feature a braided sesame seed bun, a thicker tomato slice and red onion. One of the burgers is topped with hickory-smoked bacon. The Big N’ Tasty was the last burger McDonald’s introduced, in 2001.
