Mars Gives Away Chocolate Bars
Effective immediatly, 250,000 lucky Americans will be able to take advantage of the Mars Real Chocolate Relief Act every Friday through September, when the New Jersey-based snack food company will distribute free, full-size candy bars to individuals who visit their Web site and register for the giveaway.
The Mars Company is just the latest food-related business to hit on a popular price point to reach cash-strapped consumers: Free. They join Haagen-Dazs, Arby’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken and El Pollo Loco, who have all offered free food to customers who are finding their paychecks aren’t stretching as far. The Mars Company will mail the coupons to consumers, which are redeemable for any full-size Mars real chocolate product, including M&M’s, Snickers, Dove Chocolate, Twix, Milky Way and 3 Musketeers.
To celebrate Free Chocolate Fridays, nearly 20,000 packages of Mars chocolate were handed out to people outside of M&M’S World in Manhattan by actor Neil Patrick Harris. “America could use a reason to smile right now,” explained Harris. He describes the chocolate giveaway as an effort to bring “sweet relief” to many Americans.
Additional celebrations took place outside the M&M’S World stores in Las Vegas and Orlando as well.
