While cholesterol is an essential part of our cells and hormones, too much is always never good. LDL or low density lipoprotein is bad cholesterol, meaning bad for the health.

The bad cholesterol has a tendency to create plaques on our blood vessels. On the other hand, an HDL or high-density lipoprotein helps the body by carrying away the excess cholesterol and prevents them to form plaques. Cholesterol is mainly found in our diet. If we are not careful of what we eat, it might backfire in the future. The most common conditions that result from excess cholesterol in the body are cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, and diabetes. You can avoid the risks of further health problems by watching what you eat and controlling the foods that are high in bad cholesterol.

Most meat products contain reduced fat contents, but there are those which still contain high cholesterol levels. Saturated fat is often found in animals and plants. Every by-product of animal contains levels of saturated fat and these are evident in beef, pork, poultry goods like chicken skin, egg yolks, duck and even dairy products. The unwanted fat is also commonly found in animal organ meats like liver and brain and most processed meats like bacon, hotdogs, sausages, salami, ham, among others. You can substitute your meat with poultry and fish. But be careful with the saturated fat that you can get from chicken skin or eggs, as this can also be bad for your cholesterol levels if consumed too much. Coconut and coconut oil, tropical oils, and cocoa butter are also rich in saturated fat.

Most dairy products are labeled with their nutritional value, especially with its fat contents. Whole milk is one of the products that hold very high levels of saturated fat because no fat is removed or filtered from the milk. You can skip the whole milk thing and choose a low-fat milk substitute. Skim milk is also a healthy choice.

Most snack foods also contain Trans fat that is considered bad for your health. Trans fat is used for commercial products like snacks and other foods for preservation and improved taste but increases cholesterol levels in the blood. Foods that are high in Trans fat include doughnuts, chips, and fast food staples like hamburgers, French fries, and hot dogs.
