Il Galeone Restaurant – Trastevere Rome

Il Galeone is located two blocks away from the apartment I was staying at in the Trastevere neighborhood in Rome. For those who are not familiar with the neighborhood, it is a great place to stay, with very old with some amazing churches and architecture and some of the best food in Italy. Lucky for me I was staying there.

Il Galeone is gorgeous on the inside, but they have lots of outdoor seating; so that’s where we chose to sit. You can tell immediately that the servers know their stuff. They were welcoming, knowledgeable and sweet.

I’ve been eating quite a bit in Rome; so I decided to go with something a bit more “healthy”; so, I ordered some steamed shellfish in a butter and wine sauce. They were abundant and scrumptious. When I was done I was wishing I had ordered some plain pasta to transform the dish. The sauce was so tasty that I was ready to take it home.

Antonio chose lasagna. It was incredibly rich and delectable. Not an every day treat, but a once in a while indulgence. This too was a very tasty plate.

We were a bit disappointed by the veal. Although the sauce that accompanied it was very flavorful; the meat was overcooked and incredibly dry. I’d skip this dish.

Overall the experience was quite nice at the restaurant. Not the best restaurant I have eaten at; but it has a great location, very good service and some solid dishes. I would definitely return for more of their seafood dishes and wines.
