Make Your Chicken Sizzle

Are you tired of the same, boring flavors of  marinade that you buy at the grocery store?

If so, then try making your own.  It’s easier than you think and allows you control over the ingredients for a healthier mix.

Marinades make meat and poultry juicier and more flavorful.  Typically, marinades contain an acid, which helps tissue break down, making tough cuts of meat more tender.

Here are three easy marinades that can punch up the flavors on anything  you grill or bake.  Just mix all the ingredients together and marinate for at least 30 minutes.  For best results, place everything in a resealable plastic bag and turn frequently.

Southwestern Marinade

½ cup chopped cilantro leaves
¼ cup orange juice
¼ cup olive oil
1 jalapeno, seeded and chopped fine
¼ tsp. cumin
½ tsp. Kosher salt

Lemon-Garlic-Rosemary Marinade

1/2 cup olive oil
1 lemon, zested and juiced
6 springs of rosemary, chopped
4 cloves of garlic, chopped
½ tsp. Kosher salt

Ginger-Sesame Marinade

1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons grated ginger
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 tablespoons sesame oil
2 scallions, thinly sliced
¼ tsp. crushed red pepper

Remember to discard the marinade once you’ve soaked your raw ingredients in it, since it could become contaminated with bacteria.
