2009 Brooklyn Eats
Brooklyn Eats wasn’t just about food. It was also about beer, wine and cocktails. Fifteen beverage companies came to showcase their goods. Since we wanted to walk out standing so we chose our battles wisely. We decided to conduct a Brooklyn beer tasting. These are the picks we particularly enjoyed:

Brooklyn Brewery
We started off with Brooklyn Brewery. It’s really amazing to see how far they’ve come since 1989 (when the brewery started). It has grown to become one of the most successful American Breweries. Outside of it’s brews, Brooklyn Brewery is a great place to get together with friends. You can head over there on Friday’s sit at their picnic tables and enjoy $4 beers. We sampled their Octoberfest, it was malty, citrusy with just a little bitterness, the brewers did justice to this style of beer.

Browerij Lane
Browerij Lane’s Ed Raven had some nice beer selections from his store. We particularly liked the Gruut Amber it was rich and spicy. Raven also told us about Kombucha Brooklyn, a company that makes the 2000 year old beverage here in BK.  It  is said that Kombucha has detox powers. We’re intrigued and can’t wait to try some. (By the way, Broweij Lane is having a Harvest Beer Party on Thursday night, so check out their site for details).

Six Point Craft Ales
The guys from Six Point have created high quality beers that any beer nut would enjoy. The Sweet Action had a sweet nose yet was crisp and dry on the mouth. We could definitely see this as a great barbecued chicken beer and Mexican fare.

Shmaltz Brewing Company
Shmaltz Brewing had perhaps the best beer labels around. The Coney Island Albino Python had flavors of orange with a bit of spice and ginger. We think it would have been a perfect counter for the tacos from Palo Santo.

Gotham City Lounge
We did cheat on beer once and that was at the Gotham City Lounge table. We could not resist the table where we could be served by Joker, Bat girl and The All Mighty Thor. Their cocktails were quite powerful. They served some of their Lounge’s most popular cocktails including the Clementine Wonder Woman cocktail. It was delicious and dangerous.
