On Saturday, May 9, the U.S. Postal Service is partnering with the National Association of Letter Carriers to co-sponsor Stamp Out Hunger, the nation’s largest single-day food drive.

Everyone is asked to particicpate in the drive, by filling a bag or box with non-perishable items and placing it next to their mailbox, where it will be collected by mail carriers.  The donations will then be taken back to the post office, sorted, and delivered to a local food pantry.

Appropriate donations are canned meats, fish, fruits or vegetables, boxed or plastic containers of juice, cereal, pasta and rice.  No glass containers please, and no expired or opened food items.

Last year, the more than 73 million pounds of food were collected and delivered to food pantries and soup kitchens.

As it has for the last 15 years, the Campbell’s Soup Company is co-sponsoring the event.
