What is the secret behind the 57 in Heinz 57?

Actually, there is none. It was just an idea cooked up by founder Henry J. Heinz when he saw an ad for shoes claiming “21 styles”while he was going home. Although the number may have no actual significance, the sound and looks of it gave it some level of appeal. Call it inspiration, or just plain calculation, but he did come up with the term “57 varieties”to promote his products.

The 57 in Heinz 57Not bad, to be frank. Ever since Heinz started using this slogan, they have been constantly coming up with various ideas for the number 57. For example, although Heinz ketchups have only three variations (the regular, the low-sodium, and the hot), the total number of products they offer number 57,000. It is not exactly that number, but at least number 57 is there.

Probably as a result of this fascination with this magic number, the Heinz company began using it in several ways. Their P.O. Box number is 57, their office phone number is 237-5757, and they even had one guy who played with the Pittsburgh Steelers whose number is 57. These are just an example of the hold this number has on the company.
