Not long ago he rapid fired the f-word 115 times in the first 40 minutes of an episode of Kitchen Nightmares as if he had Turrets Syndrome. This time he’s alleged to have called Current Affair’s Australian host Tracy Grimshaw a lesbian pig.

Grimshaw’s reaction was swift and surgical: “He’s an arrogant narcissist and a bully. Obviously Gordon thinks that any woman who doesn’t find him attractive must be gay …. For the record, I don’t, and I’m not. I’m not surprised by any of this. We’ve all seen how Ramsay treats his wife, and he supposedly loves her”

Now even the Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has joined in the fray: “Chef Gordon Ramsay’s remarks reflect “a new form of low life”.

“All I could describe his remarks as reflecting is a new form of low life. I just think that’s off, and offensive. Good on Tracy Grimshaw for coming out and giving him a left upper cut,” said Rudd on Australian radio according to Reuters.

The impetus for the feud began when Ramsay appeared on Grimshaw’s Friday “Current Affair”show. During the interview, Ramsay felt Grimshaw made unsavory implications about his wife. On Sunday, both Ramsay and Grimshaw appeared at a food and wine tasting party attended by 3,000 people in Melbourne where Ramsay is reported to have displayed a picture of a naked woman with a pig’s head saying it was Tracy Grimshaw while calling her a lesbian pig.

The following Monday, Grimshaw addressed Ramsay’s party antics and remarks on her Current Affair broadcast. “Truly, I wonder how many people would laugh if they were effectively described as an old ugly pig’. How is that funny, exactly?”, she said. (See Video)

Later in a radio interview Grimshaw said, “I can’t imagine any circumstances where I would want to interview him again.”

According to the Vancouver Sun, Grimshaw’s retort was followed by more acrid comments from Ramsay when reporters caught up with him on a morning jog. “For me, on a personal front, to see how sad and how bitter for someone like that to come out, a renowned pro, to stoop that low and attack my wife is disgusting. It’s obvious she’s done it for ratings.”

They say music soothes the savage beast. So, apparently, does a mother’s condemnation because according to the HeraldSun’s Colin Vickery, after Ramsay received a phone call from his mother, Helen, regarding the Grimshaw matter, Ramsay had this to say: [see video] “Tracy, where do I start? First of all, you’ve shown me great respect and amazing support over the last three or four years and I’d just like to take this opportunity to apologize for the stupid comments and am deeply mortified that the whole thing has gone this far. My apologies.”

“When your mum rings you and starts giving you a bollocking down the telephone then of course you start to get the picture,” said Ramsay.

Which finally brings us to the metaphorical expression from the Book of Matthew: Live by the sword, die by the sword”.

With Ramsay’s sexist aspersions, he has opened his own Pandora’s box with the revelation of a toilet arrest that occurred in 1993. According to The Heraldsun, Ramsay was arrested with two other male chefs in a public toilet at London’s Green Park tube station in March 1993 and cautioned for gross indecency. “One of them was having a pee in the sink. The other one was running around with his trousers around his ankles,” his spokeswoman said. “Gordon was actually just at a urinal with his head slumped on the wall.”

“We were drunk, very silly and all of us were messing around in the toilet,” said Ramsay. “We were taken in by the police, we all got our knuckles rapped but its nothing to do with homosexuality.”

Let’s get back to cooking, shall we.
