Epicerie Boulud: A Welcome Addition to the UWS

Chef Daniel Boulud recently opened Epicerie Boulud next door to his fabulous restaurant Bar Boulud. This is a welcome addition to the Upper West Side of Manhattan. In the mornings one can see locals enjoying sinful bites as they watch their fellow New Yorkers heading to work.

A must try at Epicerie is the Bahn Mi. Maybe not the best in the city, but certainly the best on the Upper West Side. Ridiculously sinful pate, offset by cilantro and peppers that left a delicate heat in the mouth for about an hour.

Do not miss the egg tartine florentine: it consisted of a soft poached egg, spinach mornay and shaved baby vegetables in brioche and yes, bechamel sauce. While I was not in love with the brioche (I was dreaming of having this on a baguette); the egg was perfectly poached, the bechamel was divine and the meal was completely worth the calories and the workout I’d later endure. I would change the bread, this would be so much better on a baguette. Still, this incredibly delicious breakfast (two egg tartines and a bottle of sparkling water) was merely $12.

Epicerie Boulud: A Welcome Addition to the UWSI returned for happy hour to join happy people slurping oysters. Six different types at $3 an oyster. So much fun to eat these luscious morsels. I even got to drink one of the roses that our wine staff picked as one of the top roses for summer. This is a great summer spot and I’m happy to see Daniel creating offerings as such.

Epicerie Boulud is located on 1900 Broadway at 64th Street in the Upper West Side of New York (212) 595-9606
