We've heard of restaurants charging for ice, now tap water?

Millennium Restaurant claims they are “dedicated to supporting the essential earthly concepts of organic food production, small farms, sustainable agriculture, recycling and composting”.

Somehow charging $1 dollar for a glass of filtered tap water doesn’t seem “earthly” to me.

“In a concerted effort to reduce recycling waste,” it says on Millennium Restaurant’s website, “combat high fuel charges & offer our guests an uncompromisingly high quality of drinking water, we now serve water through a Natura Tap Water Filtration System and no longer offer imported bottled mineral water. A charge of $1/seated guest affords an endless supply of fresh carbon & UV filtered water served chilled, room temperature or sparkling. Just tell us your preference”.

  • "At least they’re supporting the environment by not promoting plastic water bottles"

    Vin,

Their supplier probably jacked up the price because of poor sales. They should have just filled up designer water bottles with their fancy filter water and called it a day. LOL
  • We have no choice about the fluoride and other chemicals that are in the tap water, but we have to pay for them to be removed. Nice. At least they're supporting the environment by not promoting plastic water bottles.
  • Wow. You know I could understand making an argument for charging something for a glass of water with a special filtration system in a restaurant. But a dollar? Does that come with free refills?

I wonder how expensive that filtration system is to put in and maintain.
