Coke and Pepsi Contain ALCOHOL?

Based on a French study conducted by France’s National Institute of Consumption, published in the French consumer magazine “60 Millions de Consommateurs,” about half of all colas, including Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola, Coca-Cola Classic Light and Coke Zero, contain approximately 10 mg of ethyl alcohol per liter, or 0.001 percent.

The study found that the only soda brands which didn’t contain trace amounts of alcohol were generic brands.

“It is possible alcohol traces come from the process of making our drink according to its secret recipe,” said Coca-Cola France’s scientific director Michel Pepin.

For their part, the Coca-Cola company maintains they do not add alcohol as an ingredient to their beverage which the company claims is recognized as a non-alcoholic beverage.

However, Coca-Cola admits on their website that trace levels of alcohol can occur naturally in many foods and beverages.

Time notes producers of the radio program “This American Life” came across an article on the history of Coca-Cola in an old copy of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Coca-Cola’s hometown newspaper.

According to the producers, the photo used to illustrate the story is a hand-written copy of John Pemberton’s original recipe (here is the original cola recipe which contained alcohol), jotted down by a friend in a leather-bound recipe book of ointments and medicines, and passed down by friends and family for generations.

“60 Million Consumers”, the French magazine, claims different plants and spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and citrus, are used in cola drinks. “Our analysis of aromatic compounds show the presence of certain elements, such as terpenes, which are known allergens.”

60 Million also found Coke contained phosphoric acid or coloring E150d (Sulphite ammonia caramel), which up until a few months ago was included on the State of California’s list of ingredients dangerous to health.

Mail Online noted that the trace amounts would still be enough to upset the thousands of Muslims who regularly drink Cola because their religion forbids them from drinking alcohol.

Pepin insisted Coca-Cola drinks were “soft” and recognized as such by the government authorities in which they are sold.

Coke and Pepsi Contain ALCOHOL?Pepin added: “Furthermore, the Paris Mosque has provided us with a certificate stating that our products can be consumed by the Muslim community in line with the religious opinions of the Committee of the Mosque of Paris.”

According various news reports, both Coca-Cola and Pepsi surreptitiously admit natural fruit fermenting likely produces the traces of alcohol. But then how do those companies explain why generic brands of cola don’t contain the trace amounts of alcohol in Coke and Pepsi?

Coca-Cola was invented in 1886 by John Pemberton, an American pharmacist, and was originally patented as a medicine which could cure everything from headache to impotence. In addition to caffeine, every can of Coke contains approximately 10 teaspoons of sugar.

By the way, in the United States, Coke is made with corn syrup. In Mexico, coke is made with real cane sugar. British television host and author Richard Metzger says, “I am a Mexican Coke fiend. It is so freaking delicious”
