Vegan taste at its best
Native New Yorkers and visitors to the Big Apple who espouse the vegan lifestyle have a new eatery that will indulge their food fantasies. Cocoa V just opened at 174 Ninth Avenue (between 20th and 21st Streets in the heart of Chelsea) and offers customers a 100 percent vegan experience with their specialty truffles, bonbons and other chocolate treats, made on site with soy-based products. Also included on the menu is a nut-based cheese plate, tea sandwiches and their signature Cocoa V nutella and bread basket.
Pamela Blackwell, of the Blossom Restaurant and Café operates Cocoa V. Blackwell hired chocolatier Patrick Costan to develop and hand craft the four different varieties of truffles on the menu; dark chocolate, which is soy-free, coconut, cinnamon and silk, which tastes like milk chocolate, but without the dairy. There is also a vegan bacon-goji berry truffle, for those that might want to experiment with the combination of salty and sweet flavors.
Blackwell’s instincts have always been right on target when it comes to her restaurant sense. Cocoa V has only been open a few weeks, yet it is seeing a steady stream of customers, including many out-of-towners looking for vegan options. FriendsEat.com wishes Blackwell good luck with her new venture!
