China is at it Again: Melamine Found in Baby Formula

China's at it Again

In 2008 toxic melamine was found in US baby formula. Around ninety percent of the infant formula sold in the US was contaminated with Melamine which is linked to kidney failure. This caused an outrage and resulted in the death of 6 infants, 300,000 sick ones and the arrests of 20 people involved.

CNN reports today that officials in China seized 64 tons of contaminated dairy materials, this is simply outrageous and unacceptable. Apparently the levels of Melamine were 500 times the maximum allowed level.  China just can’t seem to get their act together. If they expect to compete in the international market they need to put strict systems in place so that things of this sort do not occur. As long as this keeps on happening, international markets will keep being wary of the “Made in the PRC” and ‘Made in China” stamp.

Last month we heard about the “Chinese Organics” that aren’t truly so. The USDA recently banned an American inspector (Organic Crop Improvement Association or O.C.I.A.) from operating in China because of a conflict of interest. Simply Chinese agricultural and food imports can’t be trusted  at the moment.

Message to China..get your act together.
