The Doogie Howser of Chefs Inks Deal for Reality TV Series

He looks like a normal teenager, finishing up eighth grade classes at the Ross School in East Hampton, New York.  He enjoys computers and designs web sites in his spare time. Nevertheless, his spare time is limited, because young Greg Grossman  .. CHEF Greg Grossman, spends most of his days thinking about, talking about, sampling and preparing food.  The young gastronomist has been cooking since age 7, catering gallery openings since age 11, and now, at the ripe old age 14, is writing a book and preparing to shoot a TV series.

Yes, the young chef has just inked a deal to create, develop and star in a reality TV series, in partnership with Picture This Television, an award-winning New York production company best known for their two-time Emmy-winning series on the Bravo Network, “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List

“When we met him we thought, ‘It’s the Doogie Howser of chefs!'” says Bryan Scott, a founding partner of Picture This Television, as reported in the California Chronicle.

“We knew he was a one-of-a-kind talent,”said Scott, in an interview published in the Post Chronicle. “It is not every day you encounter a kid who goes to junior high school during the day and cooks with some of the world’s leading chefs at night”

A Short but Spectacular Career So Far

Grossman has had a stellar and spectacular career in the short time he’s been on this earth.

Earlier this spring, he traveled to Chicago, attending the annual conference of the National Restaurant Association, where he charmed and impressed the crowds with his cooking demos and impressive knowledge of food preparation techniques.

While in the Windy City, the young chef was invited to assist Chef Grant Achatz, the wizard at Alinea, Chicago’s five-star restaurant, where two-hour “tastings”of their molecular gastronomical wonders starts at $145.

Some of Grossman’s other heavy-hitting experience includes providing food for a 400-guest reception for the GO Project in New York City, and for numerous gallery openings and special events.  He can’t officially call himself a caterer, since he’s too young, so his business card reads “Personal Chef”

So What’s His Show About?

The format and premise of Grossman’s upcoming television series is still undecided, although the up-and-coming-star indicates that it might be a “follow documentary”style of show, which shows him in various scenarios as he tries to balance his personal life and school with his culinary life.

Regardless of what the format of the show turns out to be, the producers will have to navigate the waters pertaining to child labor laws, making sure they don’t violate any regulations, since despite his accomplishments, Grossman is still considered a minor.

What Next for Grossman?

Keep your eye on Grossman.  In addition to the reality series, he has professional representation by the Creative Artists Agency.  He’s now in the process of searching for a culinary school that will accept him and guarantee that he’ll be their youngest graduate.

Another of his current projects (besides the book, TV series and networking) is getting the Culinaria Group off the ground, which is a testing and promotion company that will help chefs get connected with new techniques, recipes, ingredients, and equipment, in order to complete molecular gastronomy-oriented tasks in commercial and home kitchens worldwide.

Keep your eyes on this fast-moving, incredibly talented and articulate culinary genius.  He’s around to stay.
