Review: Breville Electric Wok

There is one thing about perfect stir frying: to successfully work it, your wok must be very, very hot.

Having a pretty hot wok, evidently, is not an easy accomplishment.  Many western-style stove tops can only get as hot as it can, but in most cases the stir fry ends up stewed.  Now if you don’t want to risk having an Asian-style stove that spurts some serious fire, you can take the safer route and purchase an electric wok instead.  My recommendation: the Breville Electric Wok.

Review: Breville Electric WokThere are a lot of things to be delighted about this wok.  Breville Electric Wok can get amazingly hot that it’s like having your stove top operating in some heated Chinese kitchen.  Another important feature is its non-stick surface.  Stir frying can cause a lot of scratching to your pan, but with this wok, stirring the meats and vegetables with a plastic spatula will preserve the wok’s smooth’s surface.  This non-stick advantage — thanks to four layers of Quantanium coating — also means less oil in your food which generally makes stir-frying more on the stirred flavors and less frying.

A first-time wok user will be also pleased to know that the Breville Electric Wok is easy to use.  The instructional manual makes learning about the new appliance quite a breeze.  And the best part is that the booklet also covers some important tips on how to successfully stir fry by making the whole experience less dangerous but filled with flavor and crunch.

The Breville Electric Wok is the complete upgrade of any commercial electric wok you can find out there.  With its recessed butterfly element at the base, the heat kicks up thus creates the best environment for searing and frying.  The controls are also a great feature of this wok; searing has never been this easy and precise with 15 temperature options that can range from the lowest searing heat to “high sear”.

The14-inch-diameter die cast wok bowl is another impressive feature of this assembly.  The non-stick surface covers a steel bowl and comes with a high grade polymer base that is dishwasher safe.  The glass lid is lined with a stainless steel rim with a handy steam vent.  Your purchase of a Breville Electric Wok comes with a recipe and tips booklet, a plastic spatula and a temperature indicator light.

Whether you want to get this wok for yourself or you want to give one away out of the goodness of your heart, one thing is for sure: this baby will never collect dust in the shelf.
