A foodie knows what is good and what is not. A stand-alone food can taste good, but it can be better with some dips and sauces that would give you a flavorful blow on the palate.

These are the little things that make our meals happy. Food recipes usually shout for condiments to make treats more appealing and flavorful. Dips and sauces are two of the best condiments that many people can’t eat without. Well, barely. Name whatever food you want, and there’s a special dip or sauce that comes along with it. It brings a whole new flavor to your ordinary food, in a positive way. To distinguish the different between dips and sauces, dips are sauces or condiments, of which are not added or applied on the food. Instead, the food is dipped on a special sauce to give it additional flavor. Dips usually come with foods which are easily to handle such as finger foods, streetfoods, appetizers such as chips, crackers, small pieces of meat, etc. Dips are actually sauces but are slightly thicker than a regular sauce, making it stick to the food upon dipping. Sauces are cooked or made slightly lighter than dips. It is added during cooking and food preparation. Sauces add flavor to the food, allowing deeper penetration of flavors, also to prevent foods from drying. Sauces are usually made for meat of a larger quantity, pastas, and accompany other veggies. Sauces are very flavorful that it is not consumed alone, making it a perfect meal partner.

There are hundreds of dips and sauces around the world, made for some specific food pairing. They are not meant to overshadow the flavors; instead, they are made to complement and give a little twist to your ordinary meals. Here are some of the dips and sauces that are widely made around the world.

This is a special sauce made for vegetable salads and the like. Veggies are nutritious, but admittedly it is often, if not all  are, bland. Vinaigrettes now come with different additional herbs, giving it a little twist. But all in all, to make a basic vinaigrette, you just need some vinegar and olive oil, and you have an instant salad sauce. To make your veggie salads more interesting, add a dash of your home-made vinaigrette and have a plateful of healthy veggie treats.

Pesto. This is one dip/sauce that is very flavorful and tasty to be added on your favorite meals. There are many variations of this pesto sauce in the present times, as more and more herbs are being added to make their own recipes. A regular pesto sauce is made of basil, garlic and nuts with olive oil, and sometime cheese. Imagine the aroma and the flavors each ingredient brings to this wonderful sauce. This is widely used as both a dip or a sauce in various cities in Europe such as France and Italy, and have come to invade famous world of sauces and dips. The basic rule in Pesto making is pounding the ingredients with a mortar to make a ground finish. The olive oil will give it a little moisture and this can be a perfect dip for bread sticks, bread spread, pizza and pasta sauce, etc.

Sauces Can Make A Dish BlastSalsa. Tomato is one of the most common ingredients in making dips and sauces, and if there’s one dip that tomato is known for, it would be Salsa. This dip is made with the richness of fresh or cooked tomatoes along with other salsa staple veggies. Salsa can be made with different variations, and you can even experiment with your own salsa sauce or dip if you want to. Salsa rioja is one common condiment in cuisines, widely used in the Mexican culture. In this recipe, tomatoes are cooked and mix with chopped onion, garlic, chilies, and cilantro. This is referred to as the red sauce. Salsa crudo is the one made with fresh tomatoes, sliced raw and mix with the same ingredients as other salsas, with the addition of some lime juice. This can be perfect for any nachos, chips, breads, and the like. Tomatoes are very versatile when it comes to culinary use, so experiment with your own brand of salsa and make your meals more flavorful.

All in all, dips are sauces and sauces can be dips. Pretty much the same, these two condiments really complement the dishes they are partnered with. With different cultures making their own versions, the list for dip and sauce recipes are never-ending.
