Fruit and Vegetable Rinds With A Purpose

When we use a fruit or a vegetable for cooking or for any other things, we remove the skin by peeling it off, unless it’s an apple or cucumber that we’re talking about. Instead of throwing away this peeled part, there some ways to make use of them.

We often discount the skin of a fruit or vegetable, basically because this is not as edible as the fruit itself. But it’s not enough reason to fill your garbage with items that can be recycled and used for other purposes. Yes, fruit or vegetable skins do have a purpose in life. Sometimes, you just have to do some research before using them because each skin has its particular role to play. If we’re resourceful enough to look for more ideas to make use of the skin, then it would be safe to say that fruits and vegetables are recyclable after all. Well of course, not everything is edible, but at least it can be used for another purpose.

Take for example, an orange rind. This is probably one of the most common tricks that are used by cooks in the kitchen. We all know that we could scrape some rind from the fruit to add some zest and flavor to dishes. It usually works with grilled meat, chicken and soups. The rind can be overpowering if added excessively into the dish but adds a little citrus kick if you get the right amount on the food.
