If you’re flying business or first class on American Airlines, you may be in for a treat. The Fort Worth-based airline just announced the completion of upgrades in its dining and beverage services for customers flying on business and first class tickets. American’s flight attendants will now serve meals on platinum-rimmed China; the cutlery will sport the American Airlines eagle on its handles.
Tulip-shaped wine glasses will also be introduced on both first-class international and transcontinental flights.
That’s all very nice. But what about the food? Nowhere in the corporate press release did they mention any improvement in the business or first class meal offerings. I’m sure travelers would appreciate better food, rather than fancier dinnerware.
John Tiliacos, managing director for onboard products said in the release, “We are committed to investing in products and services that our loyal customers value. We continually evaluate our onboard product offerings and make necessary adjustments based on feedback from our customers and our flight attendants.”
I guess their research shows that business and first class fliers are more interested in appearances, rather than good food.
Economy class customers traveling on international flights, however, will get a few food upgrades. There’s a new snack mix that accompanies the in-flight beverage service, and a few additions to the mealtime entrée, including cheese and crackers, a fresh green salad, and a new dessert option. There will also be a larger in-flight snack box and a complimentary bottle of water.
“We’ve been delighted with the overwhelmingly positive response we have received from our customers traveling in the main cabin,” Tiliacos said in his media release.
Happy flying!
