AMC Theatres
Outside food and beverages no, no.

With revenue on the decline as fewer people visit theaters to see first-run films, AMC Entertainment just made the decision to ban guests from bringing outside food and drink into its establishments.  The only snacks and beverages allowed in the theaters will be those purchased from on-site concession stands.

Wait!  Haven’t we been sneaking food and drinks into the theater for years because it has always been illegal?

Apparently, there was no official ban against outside food ” only the perception of a ban.  So for all those years that we carried extra-large purses, concealing everything from candy bars to sandwiches, hot coffee to hot toddies, we apparently were not in violation of any corporate regulation.  However, effective immediately, sneaking in any type of consumable is against AMC rules.

AMC’s decision follows the lead taken by other movie theater groups, including Regal Entertainment .

You mean we also snuck food into their theaters even though we didn’t have to?

In order to compensate for the new policies, AMC plans to expand its concession offerings to provide moviegoers with a larger selection of snacks and food products for their gastronomical enjoyment.  AMC hopes they can recoup some of their financial losses attributed to the bad economy.

This moviegoer suggests that lowering the price of admission and the cost of in-theater snacks would go a long way to lure back customers who find it cheaper watch films at home by using Netflix and making their own munchies.
